Honey Moon is Kawa Coffee's espresso-roasted washed Ethiopian, sourced from smallholder producers in the celebrated Yirgacheffe region and carefully processed at the Banko Gotiti washing station. Crafted with espresso in mind, it delivers a bright, fruit-forward cup with delightful notes of blueberry and orange, balanced by a silky texture and the warmth of black tea and hazelnut on the finish.

THE PRODUCER

The Banko Gotiti washing station serves smallholder coffee growers perched at nearly 2,000 metres above sea level in the Yirgacheffe district of southern Ethiopia. These producers cultivate JARC-selected heirloom varieties — notably 74112 and 74158 — which are prized for their exceptional aromatic complexity and clean cup profile. Yirgacheffe has long been considered the cradle of fine Ethiopian coffee, and Banko Gotiti exemplifies why: meticulous cherry selection, careful fermentation management, and disciplined drying all contribute to lots of outstanding consistency and character.

THE PROCESS

The Washed process at Banko Gotiti involves:

• 🍒 Selective Picking — Ripe cherries are hand-selected from smallholder garden plots
• 🔧 Mechanical Pulping — The outer cherry skin is removed at the central washing station
• 💧 Fermentation — Beans ferment in water tanks to break down the mucilage layer
• 💧 Washing — Thoroughly washed through grading channels, sorted by density
• ☀️ Raised Bed Drying — Dried on elevated beds with regular turning for even, clean drying
