The Hartmann family are true pioneers of Panama’s specialty coffee movement, with a legacy that spans more than a century. Their story begins with Alois Hartmann, who settled in Panama in 1912, and continued with his son Ratibor, who founded Finca Hartmann using 100 hectares of untouched rainforest inherited from his father.
Today, the farm is managed by five siblings, each overseeing different aspects of production, conservation, and tourism. Nestled in the lush, misty highlands of Santa Clara, Chiriquí, Finca Hartmann stretches from 1,400 to 2,000 masl, with its famed Gesha planted under the protective canopy of native rainforest trees.
The family’s dedication to biodiversity and sustainability is remarkable — they preserve the surrounding forest, replant native species, and maintain a balanced ecosystem where over 300 bird species thrive. This environmental stewardship has earned them the Bird Friendly certification, underscoring their philosophy that exceptional coffee begins with a healthy, living landscape.
In the CupThis washed Gesha from the Hartmann family is a stunning example of their craftsmanship and terroir expression — elegant, tropical, and aromatic.
Expect a cup that opens with notes of mango pomelo sago, a luxurious blend of tropical fruit sweetness and creamy texture. Bright limequat citrus adds vibrancy, while delicate coffee blossom florals weave through the cup, offering lift and grace.
The result is a refined and luminous Gesha, both refreshing and complex — a testament to why Finca Hartmann remains one of Panama’s most celebrated coffee producers.
