INTRO From Kamavindi Estate's Gichugu station in Embu — a peaberry lot selected from multiple batches for its exceptional berry sweetness and floral character, embodying the bright, juicy acidity Kenyan coffee is known for. White floral aromatics and white peach lead, with cranberry brightness and a white tea-like finish. In the cup: white floral, white peach, cranberry, and white tea.
THE PRODUCER Kamavindi Coffee Lab is one of the region's most iconic family-run estates, founded in 1958 by the grandparents of current owner Peter. The estate takes its name from the stream running through the property — "Ka" meaning "place," and "mavindi" referring to the inedible part of the yam. Before British colonisation, yams were a cash crop in Embu, washed in the very streams the estate is named for, with root sections set aside for replanting left to thrive. The name carries that legacy of abundant land and enduring family stewardship.
THE PROCESS This lot is Fully Washed and processed as peaberry — a naturally occurring single, rounded bean formed when only one seed develops inside the cherry, prized for its density and often more concentrated sweetness. The Fully Washed method strips away the fruit before fermentation and drying, allowing SL28 and SL34's classic bright acidity and berry-driven character to come through with clarity.
THE CUP Bright and classically Kenyan — white floral lift and white peach sweetness up front, cranberry acidity through the middle, and a delicate white tea finish. A refined peaberry expression from one of Embu's most storied family estates.
