INTRO A fruity coffee from the Los Rodriguez family's Kusillo farm in Caranavi — a Batian Natural run through a drying method unique to their operation, called coco natural (nothing to do with coconut). The result is distinctly fruit-driven: tropical fruit and mango sweetness up front, with a cacao nib depth underneath. In the cup: tropical fruits, mango, and cacao nibs.
THE PRODUCER This lot is sourced through Agricafé, a Bolivian family business producing coffee from its own farms while also sourcing high-quality microlots from small producers across Los Yungas and Santa Cruz. Agricafé was founded in 1986 when Pedro Rodriguez decided to pursue his passion for agriculture, becoming a pioneer of South American specialty coffee. Over 34 years later, he continues the work alongside his daughter Daniela and son Pedro Pablo, running the company with a mission to restore and improve Bolivian coffee through producer training programmes and their own farm plantings across the region.
The Batian variety grown here was brought over from Kenya, where it originated — a notable departure from Bolivia's more typical varietal lineup.
THE PROCESS This lot uses Coco Natural, a drying method specific to the family's wet mill setup: cherries are washed, laid out on patio for 48 to 72 hours, then moved into one of Buena Vista's stationary box dryers until reaching 11.5% humidity.
This patio-to-box-dryer sequence is the defining detail — it's the specific setup that produces the tropical fruit, mango, and cacao nib character distinct to this farm's coffees.
