Roaster notes

Peru — San Sebastián SL09 "Inca Gesha" (Washed)

Tastes Like — 🍊 Sweet Orange • 🍑 Yellow Peach • 🌸 Gardenia

DETAILS

  • Farm: San Sebastián (founded 2014 by Julio)
  • Region: Cusco, Peru
  • Varietal: SL09 ("Inca Gesha")
  • Process: Washed
  • Altitude: 2,530 masl
  • Harvest: November 2025

INTRO
The SL09 grown in the Cusco region is especially distinctive, with a delicate profile and floral notes close to Gesha. Local producers call it "Inca Gesha," inspired by the connection to Inca heritage. In the cup: sweet orange, yellow peach, and gardenia.

THE PRODUCER
San Sebastián was founded in 2014 by Julio. Facing changing climate conditions and disease challenges, he began cultivating coffee at higher elevations and focusing on varieties with stronger disease resistance.

The SL series of coffee varieties was originally developed by Scott Laboratories in Kenya in the 1930s. SL09 is a newer variety now cultivated in Peru.

THE PROCESS
This lot is Washed, a method that removes the fruit before fermentation and drying. It lets the variety's delicate, Gesha-like florality come through with clarity at 2,530 masl.

THE CUP
Delicate and floral: sweet orange and yellow peach fruit, with gardenia florality close to Gesha.

Flavour Notes
🍊 Sweet Orange 🍑 Yellow Peach 🌸 Gardenia

About this variety

SL9 coffees tend to be vivid and aromatic, with floral lift, lively fruit and a light tea-like structure. Roaster tasting notes often include rose, jasmine, honeysuckle, berries, peach and tropical fruit. Because the variety is newly documented, the individual coffee's tasting notes remain the sharper guide.

Why this one is different
  • Peru
  • Cusco
  • 2530 masl
  • Washed

Roaster descriptions for Peruvian SL9 often highlight an aromatic, high-toned cup, with rose, jasmine, honeysuckle, berries, peach and tropical fruit. Washed processing can emphasise clarity and a tea-like finish, but the individual coffee's tasting notes remain primary.

Washed processing can make acidity and variety character easier to read, although fermentation and drying choices still matter.

A little background

Recent examples from specialist roasters are associated with Peru, including producers around Cusco. Public roaster sources describe the variety as newly documented and genetically connected to Ethiopian legacy material.

Identification note The public evidence supports the SL9 name in Peru but does not yet settle its exact ancestry.

Classification Reported Ethiopian-legacy-related selection

Technical lineage Exact parentage remains under-documented in public sources, so this context retains the supplied SL9 identity without a definitive lineage claim.

Variety is a guide, not a flavour guarantee. Lot notes are more specific.
