INTRO
A washed Gesha from one of Mexico's most celebrated farms, in the mountains of Chiapas. In the cup: yellow pear, chamomile, almond, and vanilla blossom.

THE PRODUCER
Finca Santa Cruz sits in the mountains of Chiapas near the protected forests of the El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve, a region known for rich biodiversity, mountainous terrain, and favourable growing conditions. José "Pepe" Argüello is a third-generation producer who grew up around coffee, learning from his father before taking on the farm. With his sister Karina and the rest of the family, he has focused on improving agricultural practices, refining processing, and exploring the quality potential of the farm's environment. The farm grows Bourbon, Typica, Caturra, and Gesha, produced as washed, natural, and honey lots, under native shade trees. It took first place in Mexico's Cup of Excellence in 2019 with a natural Gesha scoring 93.07, returned to the top in 2021 and 2022, and again earned first-place recognition in 2026 for an experimental natural Gesha.

THE PROCESS
This lot is Washed, a method that removes the fruit before fermentation and drying, and dried on raised beds. It lets Gesha's delicate, tea-like florality come through clearly.

THE CUP
Delicate and floral: yellow pear and chamomile lead, with almond richness and a vanilla blossom finish.

About this variety

Coffees reported as Gesha or Geisha are often prized for a delicate, tea-like cup with lifted floral aromas and bright fruit. Jasmine, bergamot and peach are common reference points, but each lot can express them differently.

Why this one is different
  • Mexico
  • Chiapas
  • 1650 masl
  • Washed

For this coffee from Mexico, we preserve the producer’s identification without assuming it is genetically identical to Panamanian T2722 or will taste like a Panamanian cup.

Washed processing can make acidity and variety character easier to read, although fermentation and drying choices still matter.

Why the Gesha / Geisha name matters

Gesha and Geisha are interchangeable spellings, not proof of different varieties. The best-documented Panamanian Geisha descends from Ethiopian material recorded as T2722, while other coffees carrying either spelling may not be genetically identical.

Classification Reported Gesha / Geisha

Technical lineage The reported name alone does not establish one genetic lineage. Confirmed Panamanian T2722 traces to Ethiopian landrace material.

Variety is a guide, not a flavour guarantee. Lot notes are more specific.
