INTRO
A beautiful washed Gesha that placed third in the Cup of Excellence, from a family micromill in the hills of Dota. In the cup: lemon, honeysuckle, white tea, and bergamot.

THE PRODUCER
Hacienda San Isidro Labrador is a family project built over more than a decade of dedication to specialty coffee in the hills of Dota, in the Tarrazú region. Johel Monge Naranjo and his son Matías manage it together, combining an established producer's experience with a new generation's technical drive. Their micromill has taken part in the Cup of Excellence for seven consecutive years. Finca El Cedro sits at 1,950 masl, where the cool mountain climate and rich soils of Tarrazú suit their Gesha. Their approach is rooted in traceability and transparency, building lasting relationships with roasters and consumers who value knowing exactly where and how their coffee was produced.

THE PROCESS
This lot is Washed, a method that removes the fruit before fermentation and drying, letting the Gesha's delicate florals and citrus come through with clarity. The page doesn't give further steps.

THE CUP
Delicate and floral: lemon brightness and honeysuckle florals, with white tea and a bergamot finish.

About this variety

Coffees reported as Gesha or Geisha are often prized for a delicate, tea-like cup with lifted floral aromas and bright fruit. Jasmine, bergamot and peach are common reference points, but each lot can express them differently.

Why this one is different
  • Costa Rica
  • Tarrazú
  • 1950 masl
  • Washed

In Costa Rica, the name usually describes an introduced planting. Farm traceability and this lot’s tasting notes matter more than assuming it will match a Panamanian cup.

Washed processing can make acidity and variety character easier to read, although fermentation and drying choices still matter.

Why the Gesha / Geisha name matters

Gesha and Geisha are interchangeable spellings, not proof of different varieties. The best-documented Panamanian Geisha descends from Ethiopian material recorded as T2722, while other coffees carrying either spelling may not be genetically identical.

Classification Reported Gesha / Geisha

Technical lineage The reported name alone does not establish one genetic lineage. Confirmed Panamanian T2722 traces to Ethiopian landrace material.

Variety is a guide, not a flavour guarantee. Lot notes are more specific.
