INTRO

Kenya in full bloom. This washed AB from the Githembe Coffee Factory in Kiambu County is bright, vibrant and beautifully aromatic—sweet orange and juicy mandarin up front, a lively hit of yuzu for fresh citrus clarity, and delicate jasmine florals carrying the finish.

THE PRODUCER

Located in Kiambu County, around 47 kilometres northwest of Nairobi, the Githembe Coffee Factory operates under the Thirika Farmers Co-operative Society. Sitting at approximately 1800 metres above sea level, the factory supports a vibrant coffee-growing community where coffee plays an important role in local employment, education and infrastructure.

Coffee trees thrive beneath Grevillea and indigenous shade trees in rich red volcanic soils. Following harvest, the coffee undergoes meticulous preparation before being slowly sun-dried on tables—a careful process that preserves the quality of the bold AB-grade beans and highlights the classic character of Kenya's celebrated varieties.

THE PROCESS

The Washed (AB) process at Githembe Coffee Factory involves:

  • 🍒 Hand-Picking — Ripe cherries carefully selected

  • 🔧 De-Pulping — Mechanical removal of skin and mucilage

  • 💧 Fermentation — Traditional wet fermentation

  • 🚿 Washing — Thorough washing in clean water

  • ☀️ Sun-Drying on Tables — Slow drying that preserves the quality of the bold AB-grade beans

This meticulous washed process, combined with slow table drying, preserves the classic clarity and vibrancy of Kenya's celebrated SL varieties.

THE CUP

This washed Kenyan opens with sweet orange and juicy mandarin before a lively hit of yuzu brings fresh citrus clarity. Delicate jasmine florals carry through the cup, creating a clean, elegant finish. Light, expressive and wonderfully refined—the clarity and vibrancy we love in Kenyan coffee.
