INTRO A first-time collaboration with Tabaco Pata, another washed SL9 from one of the year's favourite terroirs, grown at remarkable altitude with exceptional care. The first sip is immediately reminiscent of biting into a sweet hawthorn tanghulu, opening into a round, ripe nectarine through the middle, with a subtle cranberry note lingering in the finish. In the cup: hawthorn tanghulu, nectarine, and cranberry.

THE PRODUCER Tabaco Pata sits in the Inkawasi district of Cusco, at the foot of the sacred and spiritually significant Apu Choqesafra mountain, at an extreme altitude rarely seen in other Peruvian coffee-growing regions. The estate's volcanic soil is rich in minerals and organic matter, providing a stable, superior nutrient source for the coffee trees, with the snow-capped Choqesafra peak visible from the farm amid a pristine landscape.

The farm preserves native tree species and wild bird ecology, using natural vegetation as a shade-grown system that regulates humidity and continuously enriches the soil through fallen leaves. These conditions allow Juanito Navarro's coffee to develop vivid, unique flavour characteristics, establishing it as a hallmark specialty coffee of the Inkawasi region.

THE PROCESS This lot is Washed, a method that removes the fruit before fermentation and drying — allowing SL9's naturally bright, red-fruited character to come through with clarity, shaped by the estate's extreme altitude and mineral-rich volcanic soil.

The combination of extreme elevation and volcanic soil is the defining factor here — it's what builds the exceptional sweetness and distinctly red fruit-driven profile that define this cup.

THE CUP Exceptionally sweet and red fruit-driven — a bright, crisp sweetness reminiscent of hawthorn tanghulu opens the cup, settling into a round, ripe, juicy nectarine through the middle. A subtle cranberry note lingers in the finish, adding complexity without pulling away from the sweetness.
