INTRO
Ratnagiri SLN9 Naturals showcases how a local cultivar can transcend expectations when guided by intention and precision, reflecting its terroir and the rigorous quality philosophy at Ratnagiri Estate. In the cup: cacao nibs, banana gelato, and cinnamon.

THE PRODUCER
Ratnagiri Estate delves deeply into the science of soil systems, rooted in lesser-known native coffee varietals, pioneering technical advancements and harnessing natural fermentation to precisely sculpt each bean's unique flavour identity — vividly capturing the unadulterated essence of terroir. SLN9, a rarer local cultivar, is a good example of that philosophy at work.

THE PROCESS
This lot is a Natural, dried in a dark room — cherries dry whole under carefully controlled conditions, allowing the fruit to impart its character directly into the bean while preserving clarity and precision.

The dark-room drying is the defining step — it's what builds the cacao nib and banana gelato sweetness that define this cup, with a cinnamon spice rounding out the profile.

THE CUP
Sweet and spiced — cacao nibs and banana gelato lead, with a cinnamon warmth running throughout. A precise, intention-driven expression of a lesser-known local cultivar.

About this variety

This variety is recorded for the coffee, but we do not yet have a reviewed typical cup profile for it. The tasting notes for this specific lot are the best guide.

Why this one is different
  • India
  • Karnataka
  • 1340 masl
  • Natural

Natural processing often brings a rounder, fruit-led expression, which can make the same variety feel quite different from a washed lot.

Growing conditions in Karnataka at 1340 masl also shape ripening, sweetness, acidity and aroma.

A little background

This is the variety name supplied by the producer or roaster. We preserve that identification without inventing a genetic history.
