INTRO From Karimikui in Kirinyaga, Kenya — an unusual, rum-and-coconut-driven cup for a washed Kenyan lot. Black currant depth and caramel sweetness sit alongside the distinctive Caribbean rum and coconut character. In the cup: Caribbean rum, black currant, coconut, and caramel.

THE PRODUCER This lot comes from Karimikui in Kirinyaga, Kenya, growing a mix of Batian, Ruiru 11, SL28, and SL34 across farms between 1,600 and 1,900 masl.

THE PROCESS This lot is Washed, a method that removes the fruit before fermentation and drying — allowing the classic Kenyan varietal character to come through, building the black currant and caramel notes that define this cup, alongside its distinctive rum and coconut character.

THE CUP Distinctive and layered — Caribbean rum and coconut character up front, with black currant depth and a caramel sweetness running throughout. An unusual, memorable expression of Kirinyaga.

About this variety

Several varieties make up this lot. That can create a layered cup, but their individual flavours cannot be separated honestly after the coffee is combined.

Why this one is different
  • Kenya
  • Kirinyaga
  • 1600-1900 masl
  • Washed

These varieties were grown or combined in Kenya. The producer’s lot details and tasting notes are the best guide to how they work together.

Washed processing can make acidity and variety character easier to read, although fermentation and drying choices still matter.

A little background

The varieties are shown exactly as supplied for this coffee. We do not invent one combined genetic or flavour profile for the group.

Technical lineage Each listed variety has its own lineage.
