INTRO
Yellow Gesha, or Gesha Amarillo, gets its name from a natural genetic mutation resulting in golden-yellow ripe fruit. This washed lot from El Dorado Estate carries a captivating profile shaped by its exceptionally high 2,300m elevation — sweet-sour layers of purple grape and dried cranberry, finishing with a delicate, mellow black tea note. In the cup: purple grapes, dried cranberries, and black tea.
THE PRODUCER
El Dorado Estate was established in 2017, acquired by the Elder family and jointly managed with the Bernie family of CVM (Chocovilcamundo) — a family originating from a coffee-growing lineage in Ibagué, Colombia, with generations of cultivation experience. Together with the estate's growers, they combine modern agricultural technique and sustainable farming with the unique terroir of the Andes — mineral-rich spring water, nutrient-rich shade trees, and 12 hours of daily sunshine year-round. The estate took 3rd place at the 2023 Ecuadorian Gold Cup Taza Dorado and 4th place at the 2022 Ecuadorian Cup of Excellence with an anaerobic sun-dried Gesha. Of 64 total hectares, 38 are planted with coffee across six varieties: Green Geisha, Yellow Geisha, Modified Typica, Bourbon Hezsaw, SL28, and Wush Wush, all grown using natural pesticides and fertilisers.
THE PROCESS
This lot is Washed, a method that removes the fruit before fermentation and drying — allowing Yellow Gesha's naturally layered sweet-sour character to come through, built on the estate's exceptionally high 2,300m elevation.
The extreme altitude is the defining factor here — it's what nurtures the layered purple grape and dried cranberry sweetness, finishing on a mellow black tea note.
THE CUP
Layered and evolving — an initial taste reminiscent of purple grapes, unfolding into dried cranberries and a delicate, mellow black tea aftertaste.
