INTRO The last harvest pass from Duber Mejia's El Diamante — bittersweet, given that his earlier harvest was one of the best Chirosos of the year. Tropical fruit and lychee sweetness lead, with a bright Key lime finish closing out the season. In the cup: tropical fruit, lychee, and Key lime.

THE PRODUCER This lot continues an ongoing project in Urrao, Antioquia — a region not previously known for high-quality coffee, with most production historically moving into bulk commodity lots. The first Chiroso tasted from this area reoriented how the buying team thought about the region entirely, and Duber Mejia's coffee remains a clear reminder of why that continued investment matters.

Chiroso is a relatively new variety, only recently gaining attention in Antioquia for its cup quality potential, and it's now beginning to spread. It's been genetically identified as an Ethiopian Landrace, though its precise path to cultivation in this specific region remains unknown — part of what makes it such a special, closely tracked project, developed here in partnership with exporter The Coffee Quest.

THE PROCESS The Washed process at El Diamante involves:

🍒 Hand-picking — cherries harvested at peak ripeness 💧 Floating — floated to further remove defects 🌙 Overnight cherry rest — held in-cherry overnight before de-pulping 🌱 De-pulping — cherries de-pulped after the overnight rest ⏱️ Dry fermentation — fermented dry for 36 hours ☀️ Raised-bed drying — dried on raised beds until moisture reaches 10.5%

The overnight in-cherry rest ahead of de-pulping is a distinctive step here — combined with the 36-hour dry fermentation, it builds the tropical fruit and lychee sweetness that carries into a crisp Key lime finish.

THE CUP Vivid and tropical — tropical fruit and lychee sweetness up front, with a bright Key lime finish. A fitting final lot for a standout Chiroso season.
