DETAILS

  • Producer: Habtamu Fikadu Aga (Kuri Mountain Coffee)
  • Region: Guji, Ethiopia
  • Varietal: Heirloom
  • Process: Washed
  • Grade: G1

INTRO
Habtamu's name has graced the menu all season, and this latest washed Guji is a limited lot with beautiful flavours of cranberry, rhubarb, and peach syrup. Perhaps half a dozen Ethiopian coffees this year are attributed to him, a bull market of washed Ethiopian gems. It went to subscribers first in August. In the cup: cranberry, rhubarb, and peach syrup.

THE PRODUCER
Habtamu Fikadu Aga is the producer and exporter of this lot, which comes from Guji in southern Ethiopia. Kuri Mountain Coffee, the company name, was founded in 2015 and started back in 1945 as a family business.

THE PROCESS
Pulped cherries underwent submerged fermentation for 48–72 hours, then dried on raised beds for 10–12 days.

The 48–72 hour submerged fermentation is the defining step. It's what builds the tart cranberry and rhubarb character behind this cup, with peach syrup sweetness rounding it out.

THE CUP
Tart and sweet: cranberry and rhubarb brightness lead, with a peach syrup sweetness through the finish.

Flavour Notes

About this variety

This is a mixed or locally selected coffee population rather than one precisely identified variety. Expect the lot’s tasting notes to be more useful than a single variety stereotype.

Why this one is different
  • Ethiopia
  • Guji
  • Washed

In Ethiopia, local selection, replanting and farm history can shape a mixed population over many generations.

Washed processing can make acidity and variety character easier to read, although fermentation and drying choices still matter.

A little background

Several plant types may be growing and harvested together, often reflecting a farm or region’s planting history.

Classification Mixed population

Technical lineage The individual plants are not fully separated or identified, so a single genetic lineage would be misleading.

Variety is a guide, not a flavour guarantee. Lot notes are more specific.
