INTRO

From Felipe Arcila's Jardines del Edén — the legendary Wush Wush, an Ethiopian Landrace named for the misty highland village in the forests of Kaffa, brought into rare expression at altitude in Quindío. Processed through POMA's EF2 Natural protocol and dried for 25 days on raised beds, this is a coffee of extraordinary aromatic precision and tropical depth. In the cup: jasmine and bergamot open the nose, mango and passionfruit follow through the mid-palate, carried by a bright tea-like acidity and a clean, lingering floral finish.

THE PRODUCER

Felipe Arcila is one of Colombia's most celebrated and internationally recognised specialty producers — the founder of CafExporto and a key figure in advancing the country's specialty coffee potential. Jardines del Edén sits in Quindío's Eje Cafetero at 2,000 MASL, where the cool, stable mountain climate and rich volcanic soils create ideal conditions for rare and demanding varietals like Wush Wush. Felipe's approach is marked by scientific rigour and deep curiosity — combining precise agronomic management with innovative post-harvest techniques to push what each varietal in his collection can express.

Wush Wush is a rare Ethiopian Landrace variety, named for the Wush Wush area of southwest Ethiopia where it was first documented. Now cultivated in small quantities across Colombia, it is celebrated for its vivid floral character, tropical fruit expression, and extraordinary aromatic intensity — qualities that respond with particular brilliance to precisely controlled natural processing at altitude.

THE PROCESS

The EF2 Natural process at Jardines del Edén involves:

🍒 Hand-picking — Wush Wush cherries selectively harvested at peak ripeness 🔒 EF2 controlled fermentation — Whole cherries processed through POMA's proprietary EF2 natural fermentation protocol — a precisely controlled environment designed to build aromatic complexity and depth while maintaining the clean structure and clarity that distinguish this collection ☀️ Raised-bed drying — Dried whole-fruit on raised beds for 25 days, allowing the aromatic compounds developed during fermentation to integrate fully and evenly into the bean

The EF2 fermentation protocol is the defining step — by applying POMA's Research Rarities-grade processing precision to the Wush Wush's inherently expressive genetic character, Felipe builds the jasmine and bergamot florality and mango and passionfruit tropical depth that define this lot, while the 25-day raised-bed drying locks in the tea-like acidity and clean floral finish that complete it.

THE CUP

A rare and beautifully expressive EF2 Natural Wush Wush from one of Colombia's most ambitious and celebrated specialty producers — jasmine and bergamot delicacy opening into mango and passionfruit tropical richness, carried by a bright tea-like acidity and a clean, lingering floral close. The legendary variety, coaxed into rare and extraordinary expression.

About this variety

Wush Wush is often selected for an aromatic, floral and fruit-forward cup. Tropical fruit, stone fruit and tea-like qualities are useful references, not a guarantee.

Why this one is different
  • Colombia
  • Quindío
  • 2000 masl
  • Natural

Colombian Wush Wush is often highly aromatic, with jasmine, bergamot, lime and vivid tropical or dark fruit. In the reviewed coffees, those flavours are amplified in very different ways by natural, advanced washed and cultured co-ferment processing. Expect an expressive cup, but use the producer's tasting notes to judge whether it leans floral, juicy or candy-like.

Natural processing often brings a rounder, fruit-led expression, which can make the same variety feel quite different from a washed lot.

A little background

Wush Wush takes its name from an area in south-western Ethiopia and has been planted by Colombian specialty producers for several decades. Colombia's high-grown lots have helped make it known internationally, often through ambitious processing that adds a strong producer signature.

Identification note Wush Wush is used for Ethiopian-origin plant material grown in Colombia, but the exact identity of each planting is rarely backed by public genetic testing. The producer's traceability and process remain essential context.

Classification Ethiopian landrace

Technical lineage Ethiopian-origin plant material named for Wush Wush. Exact farm-level genetic identity is not assumed without testing.

Variety is a guide, not a flavour guarantee. Lot notes are more specific.
