INTRO

From the Solorzano family at La Margarita โ€” a delicate and sweet dry washed Gesha from one of Cusco's most remarkable family farms, bursting with acidity and complex sweetness. Performs exceedingly well as a filter. In the cup: jasmine, white grape, and black tea โ€” refined, tea-like, and beautifully precise.

THE PRODUCER

La Margarita spans approximately 50 hectares in the Inca Valley region of Ocombamba โ€” but only around 9 hectares are dedicated to coffee. The rest remains covered by native forest, preserving the natural ecosystem and protecting water resources. Third-generation brothers Marco, Neto, and Ivan Solorzano carry forward a family legacy that combines careful shade cultivation under banana and pacae trees with a strong varietal focus on Gesha, Yellow Gesha, Sidra, Bourbon, and Typica at 1,900 MASL.

Cusco is a fascinating and rapidly emerging specialty origin โ€” soaring heights, volcanic soils, and unique microclimates across the Inca Valley create conditions for coffees of vibrant acidity and exceptional complex sweetness. La Margarita is one of the farms helping define what this region is capable of, and the Gesha grown here โ€” with slow cherry maturation in the cool mountain climate โ€” delivers the hallmark florality and delicate complexity the variety is celebrated for.

THE PROCESS

The Dry Washed process at La Margarita involves:

๐Ÿ’ Hand-picking โ€” Gesha cherries selectively harvested at peak ripeness ๐Ÿ”ง Depulping โ€” Outer skin removed before fermentation ๐Ÿงช 24-hour dry fermentation โ€” Beans fermented dry in their mucilage for 24 hours ๐Ÿ’ง Channel washing โ€” Washed through channels after fermentation to remove all residue โ˜€๏ธ Raised-bed drying โ€” Dried on raised beds for approximately 15 days to optimal moisture content

The 24-hour dry fermentation is the defining step โ€” fermenting without water in the bean's own mucilage builds the clean, refined complexity and bright acidity that define this lot, while the 15-day raised-bed drying preserves the jasmine florality, white grape sweetness, and black tea elegance that make this such a compelling and refined filter expression.

THE CUP

A delicate, sweet, and beautifully refined dry washed Gesha from one of Cusco's most ecologically thoughtful family farms โ€” jasmine florality, white grape sweetness, and a clean black tea elegance in a cup bursting with acidity and complex sweetness. La Margarita at its most precisely expressed.

About this variety

Coffees reported as Gesha or Geisha are often prized for a delicate, tea-like cup with lifted floral aromas and bright fruit. Jasmine, bergamot and peach are common reference points, but each lot can express them differently.

Why this one is different
  • Peru
  • Cusco
  • 1900 masl
  • Washed

Peruvian Gesha often shows a delicate, fragrant side: jasmine or soft blossom, bright citrus, peach and other stone fruit, with a clean tea-like finish. Across the reviewed lots, washed processing keeps that character precise, while anaerobic or dry-washed methods add sweeter tropical fruit and a little more weight. The process and producer notes tell you where this bag sits on that spectrum.

Washed processing can make acidity and variety character easier to read, although fermentation and drying choices still matter.

Why the Gesha / Geisha name matters

The reviewed Peruvian Geshas come mainly from high-grown small lots in Cajamarca, with further examples from Cusco. They are not simply copies of Panama's famous style. Peru's farms, elevations and processing choices give them their own balance of floral lift, citrus clarity and rounded sweetness.

Identification note Gesha and Geisha are used interchangeably, but not every coffee carrying the name has been genetically matched to the well-documented Panamanian T2722 selection. This context follows the producer-supplied variety name.

Classification Reported Gesha / Geisha

Technical lineage Gesha is an Ethiopian landrace name. The famous Panamanian selection descends from accession T2722, but the exact genetic match of each Peruvian planting is not assumed here.

Variety is a guide, not a flavour guarantee. Lot notes are more specific.
