THE PRODUCER

Thunguri is a washing station operating in the Mukurweini area of Nyeri County — one of Kenya's most celebrated coffee-growing regions. Nyeri's red volcanic soils, high altitude, and distinct dry and wet seasons create ideal conditions for the SL28 variety, which expresses its characteristic dark fruit intensity and juicy acidity in this environment.

Nyeri's cooperative washing stations are known for their rigorous wet-milling standards. Careful cherry selection, controlled fermentation, and clean washing produce the well-defined acidity and full body that have made Kenyan washed coffees a benchmark for the industry worldwide.

THE PROCESS

The Washed process at Thunguri involves:
