INTRO
A washed Geisha from Janson Coffee on the slopes of the Barú and Tisingal volcanoes in Chiriquí. Jasmine and orange blossom aromatics lead, with white peach sweetness and a green tea structure. In the cup: jasmine, orange blossom, peach, and green tea.

THE PRODUCER
Janson Coffee is a family-owned producer with roots dating to 1926, when Carl Axel Janson left Sweden and settled in Volcán, Chiriquí. Initially an agricultural enterprise, the family later recognised the region's potential for specialty coffee and officially founded Janson Coffee in 1990, building on Carl's passion for hard work, quality, and respect for the land. Today the family continues the legacy across generations, producing specialty coffees including the renowned Panamanian Geisha. Located on the slopes of the Barú and Tisingal volcanoes, the farms benefit from the unique climate and rich terroir of Panama's highlands, combining careful lot selection, traditional craftsmanship, and modern processing techniques with a commitment to environmental sustainability.

THE PROCESS
This lot is Washed, a method that removes the fruit before fermentation and drying. It lets Geisha's naturally floral, tea-like character come through with clarity, building the jasmine and orange blossom aromatics that define this cup.

THE CUP
Floral and delicate: jasmine and orange blossom aromatics up front, peach sweetness through the middle, and a green tea structure on the finish.

About this variety

Coffees reported as Gesha or Geisha are often prized for a delicate, tea-like cup with lifted floral aromas and bright fruit. Jasmine, bergamot and peach are common reference points, but each lot can express them differently.

Why this one is different
  • Panama
  • Chiriquí
  • 1700 masl
  • Washed

Panamanian Geisha, especially well-traced T2722 grown at high altitude, is the classic reference for a very delicate, jasmine-led and peach-like cup.

Washed processing can make acidity and variety character easier to read, although fermentation and drying choices still matter.

Why the Gesha / Geisha name matters

Gesha and Geisha are interchangeable spellings, not proof of different varieties. The best-documented Panamanian Geisha descends from Ethiopian material recorded as T2722, while other coffees carrying either spelling may not be genetically identical.

Classification Reported Gesha / Geisha

Technical lineage The reported name alone does not establish one genetic lineage. Confirmed Panamanian T2722 traces to Ethiopian landrace material.

Variety is a guide, not a flavour guarantee. Lot notes are more specific.
