INTRO

A superb sendoff for Rwanda season from the Kageyo washing station in Nyamasheke. Peach syrup, raspberry jam, and black tea — syrupy, jammy, and viscous throughout, with a sweetness that lingers long into the finish.

THE PRODUCER

Kageyo is a washing station in Nyamasheke that collects cherries from multiple smallholder farmers in the surrounding area. Sourced through Falcon, this lot represents the kind of collective effort that Rwanda's washing station model does best — individual farmers contributing to a cup that's greater than the sum of its parts.

THE PROCESS

Washed. Ripe Red Bourbon cherries from smallholder farmers across the Nyamasheke region are processed at the Kageyo station, fermented and thoroughly washed before being dried to produce the clean, syrupy clarity that defines this lot.

THE CUP

Rich, round, and unapologetically sweet — Kageyo delivers one of the most satisfying Rwandan cups of the season. Give it 30 days of rest and it opens into something truly special.

Coffee Variety

In this coffee

  • Black Tea
  • Raspberry Jam
  • Peach Syrup

About this variety

Bourbon is often associated with a sweet, rounded and balanced cup. Depending on the lot, that can range from gentle fruit and citrus to caramel-like richness.

Why this one is different
  • Rwanda
  • Nyamasheke
  • Washed

In Rwanda, Bourbon-related populations and regional selections are deeply established. The local lot and its tasting notes matter more than assuming one universal Bourbon profile.

Washed processing can make acidity and variety character easier to read, although fermentation and drying choices still matter.

A little background

Bourbon is one of Arabica’s major historic variety families. It spread from Yemen through Réunion and later into Africa and the Americas, where many local selections and colour types developed.
