Roaster notes

Deep Currant

Another juicy Kenyan classic, Deep Currant comes from the renowned Kamwangi Factory in Kirinyaga, and it’s everything we love about this region — bold, layered, and deeply satisfying. This AA lot showcases a creamy body and a refined, fruit-driven profile, brimming with notes of blackcurrant, mandarin, and rhubarb.

Origin: Kirinyaga, Central Kenya
Factory: Kamwangi Factory, New Ngariama Cooperative Society
Varieties: SL28, SL34, Batian, Ruiru11 (AA Separation)
Process: Washed
Altitude: 1800 MASL
Roast Level: Light

Tasting Notes
🍇 Blackcurrant – rich and jammy, the hallmark of great Kenyan coffees
🍊 Mandarin – bright, juicy citrus that adds freshness and lift
🌿 Rhubarb – tart, crisp, and refreshing with a subtle herbal edge

In the Cup
Deep Currant is complex and structured, balancing Kenya’s signature blackcurrant sweetness with sparkling citrus and a touch of rhubarb brightness. Its creamy mouthfeel and long, sweet finish make for a deeply comforting cup.

About the Producer
Processed at Kamwangi Factory, one of three wet mills under the New Ngariama Cooperative Society, this lot represents the meticulous work of roughly 1,800 smallholder farmers cultivating coffee between 1,500–1,800 MASL. Most farmers grow SL34, alongside SL28, K7, and Ruiru 11, on small family plots near the town of Embu. Kamwangi’s careful washed process ensures pristine clarity, showcasing everything we love about high-grown Kenyan coffee at its best.

A deep and expressive Kenyan.

We recommend brewing with beans that are at least two weeks off roast. All beans are roasted to peak flavour at around 8-12 weeks. We have the option to either purchase standard beans (at least 2 weeks but no longer than 6 weeks off roast), or rested beans (at least 7 weeks off roast, no longer than 12). For peak flavour, if you are looking to use immediately, we recommend purchasing the rested beans. If you are adding to your rotation of beans, we recommend purchasing the standard and allowing the beans to naturally rest and mature whilst you rotate through other beans.
