INTRO Elida Estate is the flagship farm in the Lamastus family fleet — four generations and over a hundred years of coffee tradition, founded by Robert Lamastus in 1918. This stunning washed Gesha displays the variety's cup profile beautifully: white flower aromatics, abundant orchard fruit, and a finish that sips like oolong tea, complemented by sweet lemon and honey. In the cup: white flowers, orchard fruits, oolong tea, and sweet lemon.

THE PRODUCER Founded by Robert Lamastus in 1918, Elida Estate is the most well-known farm in the Lamastus fleet, now led by grandson Wilford Lamastus, Sr., and great-grandson Wilford Jr. Located in Panama's southernmost coffee-growing region, part of the estate sits inside Barú Volcano National Park (BVNP) — protected status that keeps the farmland among the most undisturbed in Panama, surrounded by native cloud rainforest and enriched by fresh volcanic soil from Volcán Barú. The farm's high elevation, paired with a climate that swings from very dry to very wet across seasons, extends ripening times for some of Elida's most beloved lots, including this washed Gesha.

THE PROCESS Handpicked cherries at peak ripeness are sorted for quality, then pulped. They undergo a short period of underwater fermentation before being thoroughly rinsed, leaving no trace of mucilage or pectin, then spread on raised beds to dry.

The extended ripening time, driven by Elida's dramatic wet-to-dry seasonal swings, is the defining factor here — it's what builds the depth and complexity behind this cup's shift from orchard fruit and white florals through tropical mango to a final tartaric, black tea-like finish.

THE CUP Hot, it displays classic Gesha beauty — magnolia-like white florals, abundant orchard fruit, and an oolong tea finish with sweet lemon and honey. Warming, tropical mango enters alongside white peach and fresh cherry, with the oolong finish holding steady. Cool, the acidity turns tartaric and juicy, with tart mango, yellow peach, and lychee playing through the final sips, the tea character shifting from oolong to black tea. Vibrant and structured from first sip to last.

How it works The fruit is removed from the coffee seed. Water and fermentation then help clear away the sticky layer before the seed is dried.

Typical influence Washed coffees are often described as clean and bright, with clear flavours, lively acidity and a crisp finish.

About this variety

Coffees reported as Gesha or Geisha are often prized for a delicate, tea-like cup with lifted floral aromas and bright fruit. Jasmine, bergamot and peach are common reference points, but each lot can express them differently.

Why this one is different
  • Panama
  • Boquete
  • 1670-1950 masl
  • Washed

Panamanian Geisha, especially well-traced T2722 grown at high altitude, is the classic reference for a very delicate, jasmine-led and peach-like cup.

Washed processing can make acidity and variety character easier to read, although fermentation and drying choices still matter.

Why the Gesha / Geisha name matters

Gesha and Geisha are interchangeable spellings, not proof of different varieties. The best-documented Panamanian Geisha descends from Ethiopian material recorded as T2722, while other coffees carrying either spelling may not be genetically identical.

Classification Reported Gesha / Geisha

Technical lineage The reported name alone does not establish one genetic lineage. Confirmed Panamanian T2722 traces to Ethiopian landrace material.

Variety is a guide, not a flavour guarantee. Lot notes are more specific.
