INTRO Another exceptional Natural from Hacienda La Esmeralda's El Vélo Farm, Aguila plot — the estate that put Panamanian Gesha on the world map. Jasmine florality leads, with white peach and purple grape sweetness, finishing on a distinctly candy-like fruit character. In the cup: jasmine, white peach, purple grape, and fruit candy.

THE PRODUCER Hacienda La Esmeralda needs little introduction. In 2004, the Peterson family won the Best of Panama competition with an exceptional Gesha — a variety previously unknown in the region — reshaping the trajectory of specialty coffee entirely. The estate remains one of the most renowned in the world, and the Aguila plot at El Vélo Farm continues to produce some of its most distinctive natural lots.

THE PROCESS Cherries were harvested on April 22, 2026, from the Aguila plot within El Vélo Farm, then dried for 22 days in a cold room.

The extended 22-day cold-room drying is the defining step — the slower, cooler drying environment is what builds the layered jasmine, white peach, and purple grape complexity, finishing with a distinctly candy-like fruit character.

THE CUP Layered and candy-sweet — jasmine florality up front, white peach and purple grape sweetness through the middle, finishing with a fruit candy character. A precise, cold-room-dried expression from the farm that started it all.

About this variety

Coffees reported as Gesha or Geisha are often prized for a delicate, tea-like cup with lifted floral aromas and bright fruit. Jasmine, bergamot and peach are common reference points, but each lot can express them differently.

Why this one is different
  • Panama
  • Boquete
  • 1850 masl
  • Natural

Panamanian Geisha, especially well-traced T2722 grown at high altitude, is the classic reference for a very delicate, jasmine-led and peach-like cup.

Natural processing often brings a rounder, fruit-led expression, which can make the same variety feel quite different from a washed lot.

Why the Gesha / Geisha name matters

Gesha and Geisha are interchangeable spellings, not proof of different varieties. The best-documented Panamanian Geisha descends from Ethiopian material recorded as T2722, while other coffees carrying either spelling may not be genetically identical.

Classification Reported Gesha / Geisha

Technical lineage The reported name alone does not establish one genetic lineage. Confirmed Panamanian T2722 traces to Ethiopian landrace material.

Variety is a guide, not a flavour guarantee. Lot notes are more specific.
