INTRO This season's Kenyan coffees all come through trusted partner Kamavindi Coffee Lab — the dry aroma here is refreshingly bright, with clear citrus and lemon notes. Vibrant citrus acidity meets fragrant lemon zest, and as the cup cools, layers of raspberry and red plum reveal themselves. In the cup: citrus, lemon zest, red plum, and raspberry.

THE PRODUCER This lot comes from a four-year project between Kamavindi Coffee Lab and Rumukia FCS in Nyeri's Mukurwe area. While Kamavindi maintains its own estates, it also works as a technical consultant and exporter, collaborating extensively with farms and cooperatives to continuously elevate the quality of Kenyan specialty coffee. This particular project focuses on purifying SL28 and SL34 varieties while separating out Batian and Ruiru 11, aiming for a cleaner, more consistent, and more concentrated classic SL profile.

THE PROCESS This lot is Washed, a method that removes the fruit before fermentation and drying — allowing the purified SL28 and SL34 varieties to express their naturally bright citrus character, building the lemon zest and vibrant acidity that define this cup.

THE CUP Bright and layered — clear citrus and lemon zest lead while hot, with vibrant acidity throughout. As the cup cools, sweetness and acidity intensify, revealing raspberry and red plum underneath.

About this variety

Several varieties make up this lot. That can create a layered cup, but their individual flavours cannot be separated honestly after the coffee is combined.

Why this one is different
  • Kenya
  • Nyeri
  • 1600-1800 masl
  • Washed

These varieties were grown or combined in Kenya. The producer’s lot details and tasting notes are the best guide to how they work together.

Washed processing can make acidity and variety character easier to read, although fermentation and drying choices still matter.

A little background

The varieties are shown exactly as supplied for this coffee. We do not invent one combined genetic or flavour profile for the group.
