Ethiopia — Faysel Abdosh Washing Station Ethiopian Heirloom "Project 2" (Double Fermentation Washed, G1)

Tastes Like — 🌸 Floral • 🍊 Tangerine Candy • 🍑 Peach • 🍋 Lemon

DETAILS

  • Washing Station: Faysel Abdosh (Testi Coffee)
  • Region: Deri Village, Guji Hambela, Ethiopia
  • Varietal: Ethiopian Heirloom
  • Process: Double Fermentation Washed, G1
  • Elevation: 2,350–2,400 masl
  • Harvest: December 2025–January 2026

INTRO This lot comes from Testi's newest washing station for the 2025/2026 season, named after founder Faysel Abdosh himself — the culmination of sixteen years of Testi's best practices. Rich floral and fruity aromas meet a bright, uplifting acidity, reminiscent of sweet-and-tangy tangerine candy, freshly picked peaches, and a refreshing lemon bergamot note. In the cup: floral, tangerine candy, peach, and lemon.

THE PRODUCER Nestled in the mountainous Guji Hambela area, the Faysel Abdosh washing station sources cherries from smallholder farmers between 2,350 and 2,400 masl in Deri village — Testi's newest site, representing over a decade and a half of accumulated processing expertise.

THE PROCESS Whole cherries are first placed in sealed fermentation tanks with control valves for 24 hours of anaerobic immersion, until pH reaches 4.3. After depulping, the beans undergo another 24 hours of cold-water fermentation until pH drops to 4.0.

This precisely pH-monitored double fermentation — anaerobic immersion followed by cold-water fermentation — is the defining step. It's what delivers the rich floral aromas and bright acidity behind the tangerine candy and peach character that define this cup.

THE CUP Bright and uplifting — rich florals lead, with sweet-and-tangy tangerine candy and freshly picked peach sweetness, finishing on a refreshing lemon bergamot note.

About this origin Ethiopia is widely recognised as coffee’s birthplace and holds extraordinary genetic diversity. Washed coffees often show jasmine, citrus and tea-like clarity, while natural lots can bring ripe berries, tropical fruit and deep aromatic sweetness.

Typical influence Washed coffees are often described as clean and bright, with clear flavours, lively acidity and a crisp finish.

About this variety

This is a mixed or locally selected coffee population rather than one precisely identified variety. Expect the lot’s tasting notes to be more useful than a single variety stereotype.

Why this one is different
  • Ethiopia
  • Hambela
  • 2300-2400 masl
  • Washed

In Ethiopia, local selection, replanting and farm history can shape a mixed population over many generations.

Washed processing can make acidity and variety character easier to read, although fermentation and drying choices still matter.

A little background

Several plant types may be growing and harvested together, often reflecting a farm or region’s planting history.

Classification Mixed population

Technical lineage The individual plants are not fully separated or identified, so a single genetic lineage would be misleading.

Variety is a guide, not a flavour guarantee. Lot notes are more specific.
