Chiroso's trademark dominant citrus note shows here as candied lemon, alongside deep red, floral iced hibiscus tea and a sweet, mellow dried papaya. In the cup: candied lemon, hibiscus tea, and dried papaya.

THE PRODUCER Finca Granito de Oro, at 1,750 masl in Antioquia, is a third-generation farm, with Nelson continuing the work his father began, alongside his own children and brothers. The farm spans 42 hectares total, 12 planted with coffee and the remaining 30 left as untouched forest preserve. The family currently cultivates three varieties: Chiroso, Caturra, and Colombia.

Short Chiroso — commonly called "Caturra Chiroso" — is a relatively uncommon variety grown primarily in Antioquia, rediscovered in the early 2000s. Its exact provenance remains somewhat opaque, but it's confirmed to be another Ethiopian landrace variety that made its way to Colombia, alongside Sidra, Geisha, Mejorada, Papayo, Pink Bourbon, Aji, and Wush Wush. Despite the name, it contains no Caturra genetics — "Short Chiroso" distinguishes it from the related but distinct Tall Chiroso, also known as "Bourbon Chiroso" (which likewise contains no Bourbon genetics).

THE PROCESS This lot is Washed, a method that removes the fruit before fermentation and drying — allowing Short Chiroso's naturally citrus-forward character to come through with clarity, building the candied lemon and hibiscus tea notes that define this cup.

THE CUP Citrus-forward and floral — candied lemon leads, as is typical of the variety, with deep red, floral hibiscus tea running throughout and a sweet, mellow dried papaya on the finish.

Flavour Notes 🍋 Candied Lemon 🌺 Hibiscus Tea 🍈 Dried Papaya
