Pepe purchased the four-hectare property in 2010, stepping away from a career in mountaineering and exploring to reconnect with the land — and was later introduced to coffee, a discovery that became his new life's work. The surrounding area had previously suffered deforestation, and Pepe and his team have since replanted roughly 25,000 trees, returning the land to a lush, flourishing state. The farm mainly grows Typica Mejorada and Sidra, with smaller patches of Ethiopian and Panamanian Gesha alongside Caturra and Castillo — and Pepe experiments with his own processing methods, including a double-fermentation Lot JJ designed to enhance the trees' natural flavours.
